Les pues dels arpiots de cavar avellaners eren menys gruixudes, més senzilles,... perquè fossin més lleugers, però les puntes eren més amples i de forma convergent en els seus extrems. En aquest sentit, la fotografia corresponent no reflecteix aquesta forma.
Eren d’acer, tot d’una peça, sense soldadures. Els arpiots grossos podien ser de ferro amb acer adobat. Els arpiots eren més punters que una aixada, sobretot els arpiots grossos.
